• Another success for Orchestra eHealth Suite: software solution impresses AOK‐Bundesverband

After granting x-tention and its partners the software licences to supply the Digital Health Network with the Orchestra eHealth Suite, the AOK-Bundesverband (German Federal Association of Public Health Insurance Funds) has also accepted the IT consortium’s bid to develop centralized and decentralized software components.

Together with two leading German IHE system software developers InterComponentWare AG (ICW) and soffico GmbH, complete IT solutions provider x-tention Informationstechnologie GmbH will be using the Orchestra eHealth Suite to develop AOK’s Digital Health Network over the coming months. The Digital Health Network will be a platform for exchanging data across Germany. Among its core features is an electronic patient record for all AOK members. According to Martin Litsch, Chairman of the Board at the AOK-Bundesverband, the electronic patient record is intended to provide AOK members with their own ‘digital healthcare hub, while enhancing the care they receive and streamlining the cooperation between stakeholders by connecting in- and out-patient personnel.’

Health information exchange in Baden‐Württemberg

The health information exchange project in Baden‐Württemberg is part of Germany’s nationwide Digital Health Network, connecting GPs and specialists in primary care with the AOK’s specialist care programme. x-tention helps the project to implement specialist applications for electronic doctors’ letters (eAB), electronic sick notes (eAU) and electronic medication information (HausKoMeT).  There are plans to eventually integrate the health information exchange system between AOK, MEDI and HÄVG into the nationwide Digital Health Network. ‘The decentralized platform concept and the development of an integration engine using international standards such as IHE for local healthcare networks are significant developments for AOK,’ says Michael Noll, project manager for AOK’s Digital Health Network.

Furthermore, x-tention and its partners have used their extensive experience to help set up nationwide infrastructure projects such as the electronic health record (ELGA) in Austria and the electronic patient record (EPD) in Switzerland. The three companies are cooperating on numerous networking projects with electronic patient and case records in Germany. As the companies were awarded the contract by the AOK-Bundesverband, they are now working on Germany’s first Digital Health Network with the Orchestra eHealth Suite.
