x-tention are IT experts that digitalize workflows, helping to minimize system errors in health and social care institutions and improve working conditions for doctors and carers.

Organizational and clinical processes in hospitals, doctors’ surgeries and care facilities are becoming increasingly streamlined and are offering patients quick and effective treatment options. At the same time, background processes are becoming increasingly more complex, from patient admissions and examinations to evaluating results and treatment. The x-tention group are specialists in digitalizing analogue clinical communication processes. Transferring data swiftly and electronically between attending doctors, patients, hospitals and insurers makes for more efficient treatment. This includes networking hospital IT systems and communicating with referring GPs and specialists.

Spotting clinical errors

Having a well-functioning data infrastructure in healthcare is vital for ensuring that all patients receive optimal care. Despite modernized infrastructures and good treatment options, many preventable deaths still occur. In a 2017 study by the University of Lausanne, researchers reviewed 1,000 anonymized medical records in Switzerland and found that 12.3% of the cases involved an ‘adverse event’ (AE). There were 2,191,808 registered instances of AEs in the US in 2019, meaning that 6,000 clinical errors are made every day in American hospitals. Such errors may be caused by the wrong medication, unidentified allergies or underlying conditions, mistakes and hospital infections. Errors can occur because the right information is not available at the right time, in the right place. In addition to good clinical practices, optimizing treatment processes in particular improves the AE incidence rate. As a result, x-tention’s objective is to ensure that all available data is always processed securely and in a well-structured manner. A patient is less likely to receive improper care if all of their major pre-existing conditions and intolerances are stored in the hospital’s system when they are admitted, and test results during their stay are assigned to them with absolute certainty.

Saving lives with clicks and taps

Since medical treatment can have life-changing consequences, working on healthcare IT infrastructure is a critical job. Error-free processes can save lives, and this is the guiding principle behind x-tention’s work.
