x-tention provides new RCC modules for i.s.h.med MCI to support integration of common interface requirements

i.s.h.med: addition of new RCC modules

RCC (Reusable Commuication Components) are a comprehensive library of reusable i.s.h.med MCI components. They include various MCI connectors and transformers that enable you to cover typical HL7v2 integration scenarios in healthcare environments.
RCC Version 6, which was rolled out in December 2020, supports the following message types

RCC Version 6, which was rolled out in December 2020, supports the following message types:

  • RCC.adt: Patient and case data dispatch
  • RCC.ord: Order dispatch and confirmation (ORM, OMG and ORR, ORG)
  • RCC.drx: Document receipt (MDM, ORU)
  • RCC.dtu: Unaddressed document dispatch (MDM)

The following modules are scheduled to follow by the end of Q2/2021:

  • RCC.bar: Dispatch/receipt of diagnoses and procedures (planned for Q1/2021)
  • RCC.dft: Receipt of services (planned for Q2/2021)

An enhancement for any occasion

You’ll probably recognize the situation from your previous interface projects. If you use MCI as a framework without ready-to-use solutions, you’ll usually need to do a lot of in-house development. Each time you want to integrate a new subsystem, you’ll need to go back to the manufacturer and invest time in configuring and implementing, and there’s little scope for reusing the solutions when integrating other subsystems.
So each interface is a project in itself. It involves time and money, and you usually end up with a random collection of Z programs. These are seldom compatible with each other and for the most part are minimally documented. This makes them difficult to maintain or develop further.

The modules of the SAP add-on, RCC, offer you an innovative and efficient way to integrate your subsystems. RCC provides professional solution packages solution package for all common interface requirements, comprehensively defined by experienced consulting and support staff. We have examined the SAP standard and the most common customer issues in great detail. For example, incoming messages can now be assigned automatically when cases have been revised or patient records have been merged. In addition, problems such as how to handle prospective patients or lock dispatch when required are a thing of the past.

RCC comprises ready-to-use modules that have been put together by our i.s.h.med process experts and are rolled out in no time at all (1-2 days).

Each module also includes a comprehensive HTML-based HL7 profile with a complete structure description of the messages. You can use this profile without needing any further discussion with your subsystem provider. We use the HL7v2 standard (version 2.5.1.) and deliver all information available in SAP extensively in the messages. If standard maps are possible (e.g. for entries such as gender, admission type, diagnosis type and transport type), then these are already stored and you do not need to adjust them any further.

However, the flexible architecture also enables you to easily create your own fill logic. In that case, RCC uses rule sets such as BRF+, which enables you to define your own customer-specific rule sets.
Another major advantage of using RCC is that once you have purchased and implemented a module, you can use it for other subsystems without any great amount of additional work. You can adjust the configuration in just a few steps.

Optimum process consulting, maintenance and services

RCC modules from x-tention always include maintenance and a professional service offering. Our maintenance service gives you regular patch updates and new functions that we are continually adding to the modules. That way, for example, you will always be up to date if statutory requirements lead to new content in SAP IS-H/i.s.h.med that needs to be communicated via HL7 message.

You can also opt for a service contract with a dedicated helpline where you can reach us between 7 a.m. And 5 p.m., Monday to Friday. With this contract, you can ask questions or make new requests at any time. Mini consulting services are also included, for example if you need ideas or input regarding how best to configure an interface.

Last but not least: In addition to the technical provision of the SAP add-on, we also offer process consulting on the best way to launch the interface as part of a project, should you need it. To find out more, see our i.s.h.med consulting pages and feel free to get in touch.

Note on funding (German Hospital Structural Fund Regulation – KHSFV)

Please note that in the current draft of the “Funding Guidelines for Projects to Digitalize Processes and Structures Relating to a Patient’s Stay in Hospital”, projects relating to digital service requests are eligible for funding under funding scenario six (Section 19, Paragraph 1, Sentence 1, No 6, Krankenhausstrukturfonds-Verordnung – KHSFV).

This includes the digital service request (order dispatch and confirmation using RCC.ord) and the correct assignment of results to the relevant patients (return of results RCC.drx).
